Who came up with the idea to create
Highlights?

Our book was started in 1946 by Dr. Garry Cleveland Myers and
his wife, Caroline Clark Myers. In the years before they started
Highlights, the Myerses edited a publication called Children’s
Activities. They realized then that they loved creating a
magazine for children.
In
early 1946, Dr. and Mrs. Myers decided to start their own magazine—Highlights
for Children. They dedicated themselves “to helping
children grow . . . for children are the world’s most important
people.” Many of the features they included in early issues,
such as “The Timbertoes” and “Hidden Pictures,”
still appear in Highlights today.
Best
wishes,
