Pet Concerns
    Choosing a Pet
I have asked my mom and dad if I could have a pet. They said I could have a small pet, but not a cat or a dog. Which pet should I get?

A small animal can be a good introduction to pet ownership. You might want to do some research to see which pet would best fit in your life. For example, hamsters prefer to sleep during the day and play at night, and gerbils do the opposite. Gerbils generally thrive in pairs or groups, while hamsters do well alone. Fish require only a little space.

With a bit of planning, you will be able to choose the right pet. Just remember that owning any pet is a big responsibility. It will depend on you for food, shelter, affection, and health care.

It would be a good idea to get a book about how to take care of the pet you want. You could ask a librarian to recommend one.

Best wishes,
