We checked with a veterinarian. She said that cats don’t usually need baths unless they have fleas or get especially dirty. Otherwise, cats clean themselves very well and don’t need water and soap to do it.

Perhaps your parents can check with your vet to see whether your cat needs an occasional bath. The vet may also have suggestions for how to make the experience less frightening for the cat.
