What You’ll Need:
- scissors
- paper
- toothpicks
- glue
- pencil
- markers
- waxed paper
- string
How to Make It:
-
To make an Oval: Cut a 6-inch-by-1/4-inch strip of paper. Roll it between your thumb and your index finger to form a loose circle. (It may help to moisten your fingers first.) Use a toothpick to dab glue on the end to secure it. Pinch the circle to make an oval shape. Now try making a diamond and a teardrop shape.
To
make a Heart: Cut out a 4-inch-by-1/4-inch strip
of paper. Fold it in half. Roll each end toward the center
of the fold to form a heart shape. Glue the rolled ends
together. Now try making a V-shape and an S-shape. Invent
your own shapes, too! Experiment with paper-strip sizes
and with types and colors of paper.
- To make a Card:
Fold a piece of paper in half. Write a message on the
front, then draw the outline of a shape.
Arrange
and glue quilled shapes inside the outline.
- To make a Star: Cover your work surface with waxed paper. Glue together six ovals and six hearts, as shown. Let the glue dry, then remove the star from the waxed paper. Add string for a hanger.
