How to Make It:

  1. Clean a small aluminum pie plate, such as the size used for individual fruit pies or frozen pot pies.

  2. Using netting or any sheer fabric (such as pantyhose), cut out a circle the same size across as the top of the pie.

  3. Fill the plate with potpourri or with cinnamon sticks and whole cloves.

  4. Put a thin layer of glue around the top of the plate rim. Place the circle of fabric over the “pie” and gently press the edges of it into the glue.

  5. Cut several narrow strips of fabric or trim, and lay them across the top of the pie, as shown in the photo. Spread a thin layer of glue on the back of each strip and place it on the pie. Trim the ends to fit, if necessary.

  6. Cut a narrow strip of fabric or felt to use as the crust of the pie. Spread glue on the back of it, and press it in place around the top of the plate rim, over the ends of the fabric strips.

  7. Glue cinnamon sticks, a felt cutout, or a small silk flower to the center of the pie.

  8. To hold the fabric and felt in place as the glue dries, place waxed paper over the pie. Secure it to the rim with clothespins. Remove them and the waxed paper when the glue is dry.
