How to play mancala:
- Setup:
Two players sit on opposite sides of the board. Each
player places four counters in each of the six cups
on his side. Each player “owns” the end
box on his right (which is empty for now). The point
of the game is to get as many counters into your end
box as possible.
- Getting
started: The first player removes all of the
counters from any cup on his side of the board and drops
them, one by one, into each successive cup to the right,
moving around the board counterclockwise. (He can put
counters into every space except his opponent’s
end box.) If the last counter lands in the player’s
end box, he takes another turn. Players alternate turns.
- Capturing:
Whenever a player’s
last counter lands in a empty cup on his own side, he
then captures all of his opponent’s
counters from the cup directly across the board. He
places his counter and the captured counters in his
end box.
- Winning:
The game ends when one player has no counters left in
the six cups on his side. At that time, the other player
moves the counters from his own cups into his own end
box. Then, each player adds the counters in his end
box. The winner is the one with the most counters.
