How to Make It:

  1. Remove the labels from five empty half-liter water bottles. Stuff colored curling ribbon into four of the bottles. Add uncooked rice to make a rattle effect.

  2. With an adult’s help, cut off the bottom and top of the fifth bottle, leaving just the center cylinder. Make a straight cut up the cylinder so it forms a U-shaped clip.

  3. To make the juggling wand, line up two of the ribbon-filled bottles bottom to bottom. Slip the “U” clip over them and use clear packing tape along the cut in the “U” and on each end to secure the clip to the bottles.

  4. Center a 4½-inch-by-12-inch piece of felt over the tops on each end of the wand and secure them with rubber bands. Cut the ends into strips.

  5. Hold the two remaining bottles by their caps and try to juggle the wand between them for as long as you can. With practice you’ll be able to make the wand flip and spin.
