What You’ll Need:
- empty cardboard oatmeal container
- scissors
- paint
- paper, twigs, or dried leaves
- glue
- stiff paper
How to Make It:
-
Measure one inch up from the bottom of a cardboard oatmeal container. Ask an adult to cut off the top part, but keep the lid. Cut a hole in the center of the bottom section or box, large enough to fit your index finger through. Paint the lid and the box inside and out.
-
Use paper, twigs, or dried leaves to decorate the inside of the box. Glue them in place, but do not cover the hole.
-
Cut a bug shape smaller than the width of the box from stiff paper. Decorate it. Make a paper ring to fit the tip of your index finger. Glue the bug to the top of the ring.
-
Put an index finger through the hole, and put the bug on your fingertip. Then replace the lid. Hold the bug box in the palm of your hands.
-
To introduce your friends to your pet bug, take off the lid and wiggle your finger to make the bug move.
