How to Make It:

  1. To make the mouth, gently tap a hole in the side of a raw egg with a metal spoon handle. Chip away pieces of the shell until the mouth is the size you want.

  2. Pour the egg white and yolk into a bowl. Carefully wash the shell with soapy water, and let it dry.

  3. Cover your work surface. Make orange dye by mixing 1 cup of hot water with 2 teaspoons of white vinegar, 6 drops of red food coloring, and 16 drops of yellow food coloring.

  4. Place the shell in the orange dye. The longer you leave it in, the darker the shell will become. Lift the shell out of the dye by hooking a partially straightened paper clip through the hole. Pour out the dye from inside the shell, and set it on a paper towel to dry.

  5. After the shell is dry, use markers or paint to make a face. Glue on yarn hair, a paper hat, or other decorations.

  6. To make a display stand, cut a strip of paper and tape the ends together. Set the jack-o’-lantern on the stand.
