What You’ll Need:
- raw egg
- metal spoon
- bowl
- soap and water
- white vinegar
- red and yellow food dye
- paper clip
- paper towel
- markers or paint
- glue
- yarn
- decorations
- paper
- tape
How to Make It:
-
To make the mouth, gently tap a hole in the side of a raw egg with a metal spoon handle. Chip away pieces of the shell until the mouth is the size you want.
-
Pour the egg white and yolk into a bowl. Carefully wash the shell with soapy water, and let it dry.
-
Cover your work surface. Make orange dye by mixing 1 cup of hot water with 2 teaspoons of white vinegar, 6 drops of red food coloring, and 16 drops of yellow food coloring.
-
Place the shell in the orange dye. The longer you leave it in, the darker the shell will become. Lift the shell out of the dye by hooking a partially straightened paper clip through the hole. Pour out the dye from inside the shell, and set it on a paper towel to dry.
-
After the shell is dry, use markers or paint to make a face. Glue on yarn hair, a paper hat, or other decorations.
-
To make a display stand, cut a strip of paper and tape the ends together. Set the jack-o’-lantern on the stand.
