Secret-Message Tube
What You’ll Need:
- ruler
- scissors
- cardboard tube
- tape
- colored paper
- drinking straw
- string
- buttons
- marker
How to Make It:

Make four 1-inch-long cuts at one end of a short cardboard tube. Fold over and tape the flaps to close that end.

Tape colored paper around the tube. Add paper cutouts and messages such as “Top Secret” or “Confidential.”

Cut off part of a drinking straw, and tape it on the side of the tube. Thread a long piece of string through the straw. Tie a button to each end of the string so it doesn’t slip back through the straw.

Write a message and place it in the tube. From your tree house or top bunk, hold the top button and the tube. From the ground or the bottom bunk, have a friend hold the bottom button. Let go of the tube so that it slides quickly down the string. To send the tube back up, have the top person pull up the string.
