What You’ll Need:
- scissors
- ruler
- thick cardboard
- yarn
- tape
- felt
- glue
- decorated spool
- hairpin
- beads
How to Make It:
-
Cut a small rectangle from thick cardboard. (Use a 2-inch-by-3-inch piece for the larger pom-pom and a 3/4-inch-by-3-inch piece for the smaller one.)
-
Cut a piece of yarn about 5 inches long. Loosely tape it across the length of the cardboard piece.
-
Wrap yarn several times around the width of the cardboard and over the 5-inch piece of yarn. (Wrap the yarn ninety times for the large pom-pom and forty times for the short one.) Tie the wraps together tightly with the yarn that was taped to the cardboard.
-
Bend the cardboard. Slide off the tied-together yarn. Directly opposite the knot, cut through the yarn a few wraps at a time.
-
Fluff out the ends of the yarn, making a ball. Trim the ends.
-
Cut feet from felt. Glue them to the pom-pom, or glue both the pom-pom and the feet to a decorated spool.
-
Glue a bent hairpin to the pom-pom to make antennae. Glue beads to the ends of the hairpin, if desired. Add bead eyes.
