How to Make It:

  1. To make a large pack, cut out two 10-inch-square pieces from sturdy fabric. Or, to make a small pack, cut out two 5-inch-square pieces.

  2. Put one piece on top of the other, with the nicer sides of the fabric facing each other. Using close stitches, sew them together around the edges, leaving a 2-inch opening. Turn the pack inside out through the opening.

  3. Fill the pack with dried beans or dried split peas. Stitch the opening closed.

  4. To heat, use a microwave (with an adult’s permission). Heat a large pack for two minutes, or a small pack for one minute.

  5. To make it cold, put the pack in a freezer until you’re ready to use it.
