What’s for Breakfast?
By Sonya Nichols Burton ~ Art by David Galchutt
What's for Breakfast?

“What would you like for breakfast?” I heard my mother say.
“Some scrambled eggs and wheat toast will help you start your day.”

“I’ll just have an apple with a slice of cheddar cheese.
Or maybe some bananas, with cereal, if you please.

“I like cinnamon toast and doughnuts and bagels served with ham.
Or maybe an English muffin, spread with fresh strawberry jam.

“How about some biscuits, Mom? Think you could make a batch?
I like them with that gravy you always make from scratch.

“I’d like blueberry yogurt—or pancakes, piping hot.
But bacon fried up nice and crisp always hits the spot.

“I just can’t decide, Mom, what I’d like to munch.”
“Don’t worry about it now,” said Mom. “I’m busy making lunch!”
