Hush-a-bye, Baby

When the baby arrived
with its soft baby toys
and its bottles and diapers,
the rule was — No noise!
  Hush-a-bye, Baby

Speak in a whisper,
tiptoe around,
turn down the music,
don’t make a sound.
  Hush-a-bye, Baby

Shoes clipping-clopping?
Just wear your socks.
Don’t slam the screen door.
Don’t spill the blocks.
  Hush-a-bye, Baby

Stifle those giggles.
Don’t bang the drum.
Be quiet! Be quiet!
The baby has come.
  Hush-a-bye, Baby

But . . .
no one’s told baby
no noise is allowed,
’cause baby’s the noisiest
one in the crowd

Hush-a-bye, Baby
