Bob’s New Neighborhood

Dear Friend,

McMurdo Station in Antarctica looks like a small town. Its buildings include offices, dormitories, scientific laboratories, a general store, a post office, and a firehouse—but no school. Even in the springtime—the season it is now at the bottom of the world—life around here is sometimes too dangerous for children. But the numbers of people are growing, as hundreds of scientists arrive here to work for the spring and summer. They study ice sheets and glaciers, the atmosphere, and fishes and wildlife.
