How come a flame can look blue?

Most gases burn with a blue flame. Wood burns best when it gets hot enough to turn the wood into a gas, which then burns in the flame. Your
wood stove must do a good job of burning wood.

I think you asked your question because we are used to seeing the yellow flames of an open bonfire. I think the yellow comes from glowing particles of carbon that are carried into the flame.
