Why do dogs go around
in circles before lying down?

I have heard the idea that the circling before lying down is a behavior inherited from wild ancestors. Maybe it was a way of making a nest in tall weeds or grass. That sounds reasonable though I cannot be sure it is the best explanation. If you find a better explanation, please let me know.
