Rebecca
had been learning the letters of the alphabet all morning.
Now she wanted to play outside.
Daddy, Im going out to find Sam, Rebecca called as she opened the sliding glass door. I havent played with him all day.
Where
should I look first? Rebecca wondered as she looked
around the backyard.
Maybe hes over by the sprinkler, she thought. Sam loved to play in the damp grass.
Rebecca hopped on one foot to the sprinkler. But she didnt find Sam. All she found was the garden hose lying in the grass.
Rebecca decided to check the swing set next. Sam loved to run back and forth between the swings.
Rebecca did six forward rolls to the bottom of the hill. She landed on her back near one end of the swing set. But Sam wasnt by the swings.
Rebecca decided she would look in the garden next. Sam loved to watch as Rebecca and her father dug in the dirt.
Rebecca walked on her hands and feet, doing a bear walk. She stood up when she reached the garden. No Sam here either, she said.
Rebecca plopped onto the grass next to the garden. I dont think Ill ever find Sam, she said. She rested her chin in her hands. Now Ill have to play by myself.
A bush next to the fence rustled. Rebecca stared as first a black nose appeared, then two bright eyes and two pointy ears.

There you are, Sam! she cried, hugging the small brown dog. I couldnt find you anywhere.
Come on, she said, jumping up. We can visit your favorite places, and I can show you all the letters in your name, S-A-M. Ill race you to the sprinkler!
Can you find the letters in Sams name hidden in the pictures?
