The Mystery of the Haunted HousePeter wore his skeleton suit to Michael’s house. A clown opened the door. “Welcome to my party,” said the clown in a squeaky voice. Peter laughed. He knew the clown was Michael.

In the living room, a spooky spider was eating potato chips. “Hi,” said Peter to the spider. He knew it was Becky.

“Boo,” said a short white ghost.

Peter wasn’t scared. “I know that’s you, Tyler,” he said.

A witch with green hair wiggled her fingers at him. Peter smiled. He knew the witch was just Rachel.

Peter and his friends played pin the nose on the pumpkin. They tried to catch apples with their teeth. They drank cider and ate doughnuts.

Then Michael said, “Come see what Mom made for us. She made it out of boxes and sheets and some other stuff. It’s a haunted house. Who wants to go in there first?”

“I will,” said Tyler. “I’m brave.” Tyler crawled into the haunted house. He saw a short white ghost. Tyler crawled out of the haunted house as fast as he could. “There is a ghost in there!” he said.

“Let me look,” said Rachel. “I am not afraid of ghosts.” Rachel crawled into the haunted house. She saw a witch with green hair. Rachel crawled out quickly. “There is a witch in there,” she said.

“Witches don’t scare me,” said Becky. “I will go in there.” Becky crawled into the haunted house. She saw a spooky spider. “There is a spider in that house,” she said.

Peter started to laugh. “I don’t think there is a ghost or a witch or a spider in there,” he said. “I think there is a secret in there. And I know what it is.” Peter whispered something to Michael.

Michael grinned. “You guessed the mystery of the haunted house.”
