Attitude Problem

Attitude Problem
I am always pessimistic about things. It's not that I don't try to look on the bright side, but in the back of my mind I know that I can't do this and I can't do that. If I don't do anything now it will affect a lot of things in my life. Please help!

We're sorry to hear that you're feeling this way. The first step toward finding a solution, though, is realizing that there's a problem, which you've already done!

Perhaps every time you think a negative thought, you can make yourself think three positive thoughts. For example, if you think you can't do something, think of three things you know you can do. That might motivate you to try the new thing, too.

You never really know what you can do until you try. It sounds as though you already realize this. Sometimes you may try something that doesn't work out as well as you hoped, but often you'll surprise yourself with what you're capable of.

It might help to talk with your parents about this. They care about you and want to hear about whatever is on your mind. They are likely to have some good ideas to share with you. Plus, if they know that this is bothering you, they may be able to help motivate you to keep a positive attitude.

We're sure that you're capable of doing many, many great things.

Best wishes,
