Create an incredible contraption of chain reactions! For example, a Chain Reaction Machine might start with a line of dominos that hits a ball, which rolls through a cardboard tube tunnel until it knocks over a cup that spills a bit of water onto a toilet paper bridge, causing it to tear. Finally, marbles on the torn bridge might drop onto your clock’s snooze button just as the alarm is telling you it’s time to get up for the first day of school. What will set off your machine? How will it be used? What happens at the end? You can make your machine using cardboard tubes, yarn, paper cups, and household objects. (Be sure to ask a parent before using household objects, though.) Check out the video above to see the machine we made at Highlights!
